Net School Science this week: Should we bring back Extinct Species?

Before half term, our Year 9 scientists learned about animals that had become extinct and scientific research into bringing them back into existence. Such animals include the Tasmanian Tiger and the Woolly Mammoth.  How do you feel about this?  Is it meddling with nature?  We had some great discussions about this as the mammoth died out due to climate change and natural causes, but the Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger - pictured below) was hunted to extinction.  If we were responsible for its demise, then surely we should do our best to bring it back?  It still has a natural habitat in Tasmania which has been largely unchanged.  Many people in Australia and Tasmania believe there are still individuals alive and there are many videos and sightings posted on forums.

What are your thoughts on this?  Maybe you would like to watch the documentary that Year 9 watched over the half term break? If so, click here to find out more!
