How do our clubs support learning?

This year our Spanish teacher Chloe Bullock has been really impressed with her students' progress made by taking part in Spanish Speaking Club.

“I launched the club in January with the idea that IGCSE students could get some extra speaking practice ahead of their exams this summer, but the enthusiasm from students across all levels was really positive from day one.  They are now really starting to master the skill of speaking spontaneous Spanish and have enjoyed learning plenty of natural sounding words and phrases to use in real-life conversations, which we don't always get time to cover during lessons.  Some students that attend have been engaging with each other in Spanish-only conversations of over 20 minutes at a time and have really come into their own.  All have made massive progress in terms of confidence and their ability to build sentences off the top of their heads, which is the skill required to speak a foreign language.  This is far beyond anything that I have ever seen achieved at KS3 and KS4 in a physical school and I think that is because online learning lends itself so perfectly to this kind of learning, given that inhibitions about speaking are far less online than in a face-to-face environment.  I hope that some of you have had the chance to use your Spanish speaking skills on holiday in Spain or Latin America over the summer break and I look forward to welcoming even more Net School students along to our Spanish speaking club in September!”
