Looking After Our Mental Health

As a follow up to our blog last week about Children’s Mental Health Week, our blog compiler and science teacher extraordinaire Soraiya Humby spoke to our pastoral tutor Mrs Bullock to find out about some suggestions for looking after ourselves.

"Looking after our mental health is as important as looking after our physical health, and the two are very much interlinked.  Here is a list of good habits you could try to adopt to keep yourself mentally healthy and to build resilience for when life get challenging:

- Teach yourself a relaxation exercise such as the one at this link:   https://www.nopanic.org.uk/body-scan-relaxation/
- Practice mindfulness/meditation.  Here is a useful video to get you started:   https://nopanic.org.uk/a-moment-of-mindfulness-video/
- Eat a varied healthy diet and drink at least 2 litres of water each day.
-Get into a good bedtime routine, go to bed at roughly the same time each night, and not too late.
- Exercise regularly.
- Be grateful.
- Make time for personal hobbies and pastimes.
- Take time to talk and listen to friends and family members and ask them to do the same for you.
- Try to find the positive in all situations, no matter how hard it might be."
