Y8 Floating Gardens

Earlier in this year our Year 8 students made models of floating gardens for their Geography homework.

A floating garden is a raft of aquatic weeds on which other plants or crops can be grown.  They are a low tech solution to the issue of rising sea levels caused by climate change.

The floating gardens allow people to still grow and harvest crops even when the area is flooded. The picture above shows one of our student's models, which uses a Lego base (rather than aqautic weeds) to support the growth of cress, which they coud then 'harvest' and enjoy in a salad!

We think they did a great job!
