Welcome to the New School Year!

Now that we are a few weeks into the autumn term, I wanted to post an update to let you know some of the exciting developments that are going on at Net School in this, our ninth year!

To begin, we were delighted that our IGCSE and AS level students achieved such a wonderful set of results in the summer 2021 exams. Students and their teachers had worked hard over the previous few months to complete and mark assessments allowing for the submission of Teacher Assessed Grades, with 61 individual subject entries made in total. On results day, 92% of our IGCSE results were at levels 9 - 5, equivalent to the former A*- C grades, with 76% of all IGCSE results being at levels 9 - 7 (A - A* grades). At AS Level, 50% of our results were graded A*- A. We are so pleased to see our students’ and teachers’ hard work recognised.

Secondly, we are excited to announce a change in our online classroom provider to Blackboard. After a successful trial with our Primary classes last year, we have now moved all our tuition to Blackboard Collaborate classrooms, accessed through our existing learning platform. The new classrooms are intuitive, accessible to all our students across the world and allow for greater student-teacher interaction through the excellent gallery feature. Our Primary students are already making the most of being able to see each other working, with a new live Art Club running on Tuesday lunchtimes.

This year is also notable as our first A Level cohort will be making their university applications very soon. As a UCAS recognised centre, we are delighted to be able to assist them through this process with advice on subject choices and courses, practical help with completing the forms and ongoing support as they receive offers. Huge thanks to Dr Ellie Nalson as Head of Sixth Form for her work with our A level students.

Wellbeing continues to be a key focus for our team as the world moves on through the Covid-19 pandemic, and we particularly thank Net School’s Pastoral Tutor, Mrs Chloe Bullock, for her work last year, running weekly ‘wellbeing’ drop-ins for students, in addition to more structured sessions around issues of resilience and positive mental health. Students appreciated the opportunity to meet informally in a group with Mrs Bullock and share any worries or just chat with each other, especially during lockdown. Wellbeing activities will continue this year, with any student also able to contact Mrs Bullock directly if they have a particular concern that they would like to discuss.

Finally, we are thrilled to see so many new families joining us this year. Many of our classes are now full, but we do still have places available in specific subjects. Enrolment is welcome at any time, so if you are interested in your child joining Net School, please do email us at office@net-school.co.uk or call on 0800 689 0335 and our wonderful School Administrator, Mrs Emily Williams, will get back to you to advise on how we can best support your family.

With every good wish for the coming school year,

Susan Reed
